The Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Student Clinical Rotation at People's Community Clinic aims to provide nursing students with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a federally qualified healthcare center and nonprofit organization. Under the guidance of experienced healthcare providers, students will have the chance to contribute to the provision of affordable and high-quality healthcare to uninsured and underserved communities.

 

The primary objective of the FNP Student Clinical Rotation is to enhance students' clinical skills and understanding of primary care practice within the context of a community-focused healthcare organization. By participating in this rotation, students will develop essential competencies required for effective and compassionate healthcare delivery.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of People’s Community Clinic Provider, this individual’s primary responsibilities include:

  • Patient Care: Assist precepting healthcare providers in assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients across the lifespan.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement patient care plans.
  • Clinical Procedures: Perform basic clinical procedures such as physical assessments, vital sign measurements, and simple wound care.
  • Health Education: Provide health education to patients and families on disease prevention, management, and healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Charting and Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely electronic health records (EHR) for patients seen during the rotation.
  • Case Presentations: Prepare and present case studies, patient histories, and treatment plans to preceptors and peers.
  • Professional Development: Participate in learning opportunities, attend staff meetings, and engage in reflective discussions with preceptors.

 

Qualifications

Education: Enrolled in an accredited Family Nurse Practitioner program. Completion of core clinical coursework relevant to primary care.

 

Experience: Prior clinical experience as a registered nurse, preferably in a primary care or community healthcare setting.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Solid understanding of nursing theory and clinical practice fundamentals.
  • Proficiency in conducting physical assessments and utilizing assessment tools.
  • Strong communication skills for effective patient interactions and interprofessional collaboration.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems and documentation practices.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and adapt to a dynamic clinical environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual proficiency to enhance communication with diverse patient populations.
  • Previous experience working with underserved or vulnerable communities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to healthcare equity and social justice.
  • Active involvement in nursing associations or community service organizations.
